Social Structure Processes

Structure of Human Society

Society is a large collectivity of people who share common geographical territory, common political organization and a dominant cultural expectation.

Society is composed of : (1) Interacting humans or people who do things together; (2) Each interacting human occupy social positions or statuses. One's status at any point in time specifies who he should interact with; (3) Roles or the activities of the interacting human in terms of the duties they discharge and the privileges they enjoy; (4) Norms or the behavioural expectation of interacting humans during interaction; and, (5) Values or what is considered highly important in that society. Values shape the norms of the society while the norms shape the behaviour of the people during interactions

social interactions serve the following purposes:

Consequently, whenever a need arises in the society; or when there is  a major social interest to be protected, or a core value to be preserved; society carves out a set of social positions, put some members into  the positions; prescribe roles for them based on societal values and norms. Their interaction eventually satisfy the need, preserve the value or protect the interest.

Each set of interacting humans is Known as social Institution, and all the social institutions give each society its social structure
